Recently, the 5th Competition of Basic Skills of Art and Design Majors in Shandong Universities was held in the campus of Qianfo Mountain of Shandong University of Art & Design. A total of 21 teachers and students were selected to participate in the competition. After evaluation of the committee, they won 2 first prizes, 3 second prizes, and 9 third prizes, totally 14 items. Among them, the number of prizes awarded by teachers and students of environmental design major was the largest, with a total of 8, including 1 first prize, 2 second prize, 5 third prize, they achieving an excellent result.

With the theme of "Keeping Pace with the Times", in addition to the traditional professional live competition, the basic skills competition for teachers and students added two new competitions, namely, the submission of works and all-round team of the normal category. It is reported that a total of 95 schools across the province participated in the competition, with 547 pieces of painting, sculpture, pottery, photography, animation, digital image, and other works received; 1237 teachers and students participated in sketch, watercolor, calligraphy, Chinese painting, design, all-round (normal) and other on-site competitions.

The basic skills competition for teachers and students majoring in fine arts and design in colleges and universities in the whole province is held every three years by the Department of Education of Shandong Province. It is a centralized inspection of the teaching quality of fine arts and design major in colleges and universities, and also a centralized display of teaching achievements in recent years, representing the highest level of basic teaching of art and design major in colleges and universities in our province, characterized by extensive participation of schools, large number of teachers and students participating in the competition, and high level of entries. This competition plays a positive and important role in several aspects like improving the teaching level of fine arts education in colleges and universities of the whole province, promoting the reform of basic teaching, innovating the mode of talent training ,and improving the quality of talent training.
