On December 13th, Professor Watanabe Sinnitirou, director of Japanese Traditional Music Research Center of Kyoto City University of Arts, Japan, Associate Professor Takeuchi Emiko, and Professor Xue Luojun, director of China department of International Communication Center of Toho College of Music visited the School of Art. In the morning, the ceremony of signing cooperation agreement and series of academic activities on “ The Inheritance of Gagaku with Lasting Charm in Japan” were held in the School of Art.
Respectively on behalf of each side, Professor Li Xiaofeng, Dean of the School of Art, and Professor Watanabe Sinnitirou signed the cooperation framework agreement, according to which both sides would carry out cooperation and exchanges in artistic performance, academic research, and artistic creation.
The report of the three visiting experts focused on “ the inheritance of gagaku in Japan”, including “The Journey of SanYue ‘Sumozhe’ from Kucha to Kyoto”, “To Restore the Guqin Music of Tang Dynasty from the Ancient Music Score of Japanese Gagaku”, “Preservation and Current Situation of Japanese Music”, etc. It took playing classical gagaku as the breakthrough point, discussing the inheritance of gagaku and the current situation of Japanese music preservation based on years of professional research, and illustrated the charm of music as an invisible art with time going on.
In the afternoon, an academic seminar between Chinese and Japanese experts was held in the conference room of the art building.
This series of activities is one of the activities in which Shandong University has been approved to build a Base for Inheriting the Fine Chinese Culture and Art -- the Base for Inheriting the Chinese Gagaku Music, which has improved the understanding of the teachers and students about the Chinese Gagaku music and promoted the its spread on campus.
