The School of Art consists of five majors: musicology, choreography, fine arts, visual communication design, and environmental design. The school is equipped with an influential faculty, among whom there are 11 professors and 20 associate professors, 1 doctoral supervisor and 30 master supervisors, all of them have returned from overseas study in more than 10 countries in the world. Academic master students in the major of art theory and MFA professional master students can be admitted into the school.
The school has a complete teaching infrastructure and scientific research institutions: there are more than 100 piano rooms with over 100 pianos, professional concert hall, exhibition hall, multi-function lecture hall, MIDI laboratory, electric piano laboratory, model laboratory, and several art rehearsal rooms for chorus, national orchestra, western orchestra, and dance, as well as imaging laboratory, sculpture and pottery laboratory, painting copy room, computer teaching laboratory, model laboratory and other practical teaching facilities. It has also established the Art and Culture Research Center of Shandong Brand and Communication Research Base, Decorative Art Research Institute, Marine Landscape Research Institute, and other research and innovation platforms, which provide favorable conditions for teaching research and practical teaching.
In recent 5 years, the school faculty have released 311 papers in the domestic and foreign periodicals, published 82 monographs and compilations, and carried out two national scientific research projects and 29 provincial projects, among which the choreodrama "Xiang Yu, the Conqueror" won the first prize in the 11th Mount Tai Art and Literature of Shandong province in dancing category, and the oil paintings "One Moment of the Pier" and "Yun Shui Yao" were selected on display in the 13th National Exhibition of Fine Arts. Teachers and students of the school actively participate in various professional competitions at home and abroad as well, and have won 254 awards at or above the provincial level, including 1 first prize and 3 second prizes in national competitions.
The school attaches great importance to international communications, having established cooperative relations with quite a few eminent universities from USA, South Korea, Japan and Ukraine, namely James Madison University, University of Cincinnati,Kangwon National University, Pai Chai University, Nagoya University of Arts, Kurashiki Sakuyo University, National Pedagogical Dragomanov University, etc., which lays a good foundation for the teachers and students to get involved in international exchange activities.
